Famous Clowns

Who are the most famous clowns in
the world? That depends on who is
answering the question and where
in the world they live!

You get to tell us the answer! To the right you will see pictures of clowns that our visitors have submitted as the most famous clown. You can click on their picture to read what others have said - and you can post comments - or you can use the form at the bottom of the page to submit your own "Most Famous Clown."

Bozo the Clown is at or near the top of any American list, simply because he wasn't one clown but many actors taking on the Bozo persona in order for him to be a 'local' clown. Little children might argue for Ronald McDonald. People from my parents' generation would probably say Red Skelton or Lucille Ball.

This is an interesting question - and one that doesn't have a wrong answer! You see, as we began the search for an answer, we discovered different clowns from all over the world could fit the description. For instance, if I was to ask this question in Europe the answer might possibly be Charlie Rivel, while in the Soviet Union it could be Otto Griebling. The French might answer The Fratellinis and someone in Poland may answer that CoCo The Clown is their favorite clown.

Unfortunately, if you ask the an American in the 10-25 year age bracket, you might hear Krusty The Clown from The Simpsons. For someone from the Coulrophobe Crowd the answer would probably be Pennywise from Stephen Kings movie titled IT or the clown doll from Poltergeist.

We hope to collect and share information on these and many more clowns and want to encourage our valuable visitors (that means you!), to use the form below to share your answer to the question. And yes, you can add your own name to the list - if you are famous, that is!
